The Bengal cat was first bred in the
U.S.A and was produced by crossing an Asian Leopard Cat with a
domestic cat. The domestic Bengal Cats gets its name from the Latin name
of its wild ancestors, Felis Bengalensis {Asian Leopard Cat}. Whereas the
domestic Bengal Cat is similar in appearance to the Asian Leopard cat and
contains a genetic contribution from that particular wild cat
species, its temperament is however purely domestic. The goal in
developing the domestic Bengal cat breed was to preserve the striking
physical similarities to that of its beautiful wild ancestor and as the
same time ensuring the breed had a pleasant disposition and thus
making it a trustworthy family companion. Therefore, the conformation of
the Bengal is definitely reminiscent of its ancestors.
